Berends Hendricks Stuit Insurance Agency, Inc. was incorporated in January 1, 1985 by Edward Berends, Dennis Hendricks, and Thomas Stuit. This was a merger of the Hendricks Mayer Agency, which was founded in 1939 by Donald Hendricks and Berends Stuit & Associates, which was founded by Edward S. Berends in 1950. Jerry Niewiek became a stockholder in 1995 and Steven Olson as of January 1, 2000. BHS Nonprofit Solutions was established in January 2000 to better service the insurance and risk management needs of our nonprofit clients.
Our dedicated staff is trained to draw on several high quality national, regional and specialty insurers to design cost effective, comprehensive and creative insurance programs for businesses and individuals. Our goal is to provide a level of service that is unmatched by anyone in the business. IIt has always been our attention to detail and strong commitment to excellence that sets us apart from the competition; and rest assured, it always will be.
Our agency staff of over 80 professionals has the privilege of serving over 2,400 commercial customers, over 12,000 personal customers for property and casualty insurance, and over 600 businesses for employee benefits.
The agency has grown rapidly by both acquisition and internal growth. In addition to our main office at 3055 – 44th St. SW; Grandville, MI, we have branch offices located in Holland and Byron Center.
Berends Hendricks Stuit has received recognition from several insurers for both production and quality. We are a Humana Leaders Club, Priority Health Key Producer, Accident Fund “Diamond Club Agency,” a Cincinnati “Presidents Circle Agency,” a Hastings Mutual “Exceptional Agency,” a Secura “Premier Agency,” a Selective “Presidents Club Agency,” and a Grange “Senior Partner Agency.” We have also been recognized nationally as a “BEST Practices” agency by the IIAA (Independent Insurance Agents of America) as one of the “Top Thirty” performing agencies in our revenue category for each of the past ten years. In 2005, we were honored to be named Agency of the Year by the Accident Fund and Michigan Agent of the Year by Grange.
